Welcome to the 175th Southwood Scouts group web site.

If you are new to Scouts and would like to check it out and see who we are and what we do you are welcome to come and visit one of the  regular sessions we have. Scouts is the worlds largest peace movement and it teaches kids responsibility, respect, sharing, first aid skills to older kids and useful skills that they will use throughout their lives as adults on a daily basis, like cooking, camping, fire building, how to survive in the wild, compass reading, respect for others, respect for ourselves, leadership amoung peers and much more.

We meet weekly, one section per evening for beavers, cubs, scouts etc at the Holy Family School in the gymnasium. Here is the school address . We are active in the Edmonton Southwood community. Visit the contacts page and here is the REGISTRATION FORM CLICK HERE

We look forward to sharing all the news, photos and all the positive learning experiences that we have together. Feel free to explore the site and forward any pictures and stories that add positive impact to this Scouting group by sharing them here on this site.

It’s an event never before seen in Canadian history…and you will be a part of it!  From March 7 – 13, 2010, Scouts Canada is celebrating our first ever National Good Turn Week, a

Like a wave across the nation, small acts of kindness from our youth everywhere will gather speed and momentum until they flood the airwaves and the hearts and minds of Canadians.

This is your chance to let the Canadian public know who we are and what we stand for. You believe, like we believe, that Scouting is the best youth organization ever.  We are the finest ambassadors in the world for helping others; this is our chance to prove it. This project, your project, will have a powerful impact on Canadians from coast to coast to coast.
Whether you’re a Beaver, Cub, Scout, Venturer, Rover or leader…do your Good Turn, whatever it may be, and pass on your wristband.  That person can do a Good Turn for someone else. Before we know it, hundreds of thousands of Good Turns will turn this nation into a kinder place, and they’ll all remember who started it:  Scouts!

What can you do?  Check out the Good Turn ideas in the attached article! Don’t stop there…use your imagination to come up with good turns that are uniquely you.  Think about approaching your local officials…mayors, local news personalities, etc. – they love projects like this, they love Scouts, and they’d love to wear their bracelets on the air!

There are lots of other ways you can participate!

  • Check out the Good Turn website (coming next week to the homepage of www.scouts.ca) and post your Good Turn in real time, alongside your fellow Scouts!  Cheer each other on!
  • Send us pictures of your Good Turns and Group Good Turns. Send us your Good Turn stories and hi res photos for Scouting Life and external publicity.
  • Send your Good Turn videos for our YouTube channel!
  • Tune in to Good Turns on Twitter and Facebook!
  • Send your stories to local media in your area.  Your council office will be there to help you.

It's easy...just send all photos, videos, stories, thoughts, videos to Susie Mackie, National Communications at smackie@scouts.ca

It all starts with you.  One Good Turn, one wristband, one chance to rise up and stand up for the goodness in Scouting that makes us great.

Are you ready?  Let’s do it.
